Hello,
Does anyone know if the Table 5 - Reaching through regular openings - Persons of 3 years of age and above in the 13857:2008 Standard applies to all industrial equipment? There is also a table for persons of 14 years of age and above that seems more reasonable to use.

Also, if perforated sheet with 0.75" diameter holes was to be used on the barrier, are the relatively "sharp" edges of the holes considered a safety hazard. If so, would the hazard be considered relatively minor and able to be ignored?

Thanks for your time.
Regards,

The standard and thus the table is applicable to all machines/equipment which fall under the European Machine Directive 2006/42/EC.

The European Machine Directive does not know dangers for the health of a person which are minor and can be ignored. Some dangers cannot be avoided and for these you can use appropriate notes in the operating instruction and stickers on the machine. But you can never ignore them and I doubt that sharp edges can not be avoided.

Are the edges likely to cause an injury.

Why can the sharp edges not be removed. I I was ordering a perforated sheet I would specify that any burrs or sharp edges are to be removed.
