17-22 brake rotors 2

Heloman29, I have been trying to track down information of processing of brake rotors, I noticed on you post that you were using 17-22.

I have been trying in vain to find a supplier of this material or its equivalent, I need stock 3/8 inch thick, any clues would be appreciated

The previous posts on this issue were also very helpful. I am trying to duplicate brake rotors for a military jet with brakes
made in Europe, and can't get any support (let alone a phone call)

I don't think you will have to buy that much as too many people carry it. Let the Forum know the end game as it may help someone else.

called Steelforge, they indicated they have never carried this alloy, Tech Steels recognized the number, has no stock but will look. Apparently this is a common item in Europe, not so much US.

I an trying to support the brakes on a former German jet fighter,a french company made the brakes and wheels and is a non-starter support wise. I wil be using off the shelf friction pads from a US commercial supplier, the stators are 4140. The rotors in the original brake have not been sampled, but two domestic supplied samples, one used and one new, incicated 17-22AS, 6458 or K23015. I hate to predicate the design on such a hard to find alloy, I would like a more US available substitute

I know enough about metallugy to know that I don't know anything.
I want to closely duplicate the exisitng materials as these brakes have to dissipate over 3 million ft lbs of energy on a normal stop, each
 
I would contact Timken, as they were the ones that developed this alloy. They supplied our rotor material when I worked in aircraft brakes. Our stators were also 17-22 AS.

thanks for the reference of 17-22,
everyone shows this alloy, no one carries it

got in touch with Timkem,
not only do they not have any, they are on allocation until September,(only taking care of existing commitments), no recent records of any shipments to distribution
I will look for the AMS numbers provided, but I have exhuasted every viable lead for the 17-22AS material, all were no quote or never heard of it, I have called so many people that I even had one guy know my question before I finished, as he had been contacted but someone else in thre steel biz

One brake manfacturer came back with the info that they use 4130,
seems a little short on Mo and Cr compared to 17-22, but off the
shelf at least

If you are open to substitute other than this 17-22, please loop up Timken Impact 7, 8 or 10. Only difference is they don't typically include any V.
 
I've given up on the 17-22A or AS, and AMS 6302,
there is no 3/8 plate available anywhere,

I am taking salmon2's advice and looking for Timkem product,

unfortunately, "Alloys International" is just another broker with no stock
