180 degree sheet metal bend

We recently moved from version 18 to NX4.

I can make a 180 degree bend in the old version, but have trouble in outside corners where two bends meet. It creates the flanges, but when I add features to remove the interferences, the program will not allow me to add these. It will allow me to add them on only one flange (the flange appearing earlier in the feature navigator).

The NX4 version of sheet metal will not allow creation of the flange with a 180 degree bend.

My bend radius approaches the value of zero.

Any suggestions?

That's called a Hem Flange and has been added as an enhancement to the NX 5 Sheet Metal product. In fact, the Hem Flange is just one of several different style of 'End Flanges' that can be added to a Sheet Metal model as the dialog for the Hem Flange function shows in the referenced image.

Thanks, John, for your reply.

Based on our history of installing new versions, I won't be able to use this enhancement for another 4 or 5 years.

Several of us here that use the sheet metal package have tried to use the NX4 version, only to run into too many problems with it. We still use the old version of sheet metal, and avoid using the NX4 version.

I have been using NX4 version to model this part. It has been a struggle. My bend angles are at 179.8, and will be close enough for the work we do.

If anybody has any other suggestions I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Unfortunately no advice for your Sheet Metal issue, but I do feel your pain.

It's too bad you cannot migrate at your leisure. I was stuck in that rut when we had GM for a customer, but now that they aren't a customer, I'm able to migrate at will and it's been nice. However, I'm not using applications other than Modeling, Shape Studio and Drafting for the most part....some small assemblies and no Teamcenter.

Don't get me wrong...the new NX versions do not fix or improve everything I am using, but they are a big step in the right direction, in my opinion. There are still some things that are pretty much broken or missing or not working like I feel they should, but hopefully those things can get straightened out in the near future and be a little bit better.

It's sometimes difficult to remain patient and have a positive outlook when you're under the gun to get something done and run into problems.
