Is this a thing? I see it in Vulcraft's tables but never in practice.

I'm not sure I've ever specified it - you might try contacting Vulcraft (Nucor) and ask a technical rep.

I've specified this on at least 100 jobs. It exists and it's fine to specify it. I think people are afraid of odd numbers, but the contractors I work with have no trouble procuring it.

On the other hand, I don't specify things like L4x4x5/16. I go straight to L4x4x3/8.
