1965 Steel Plate

I have a 1965 drawing referencing 3/16" carbon steel plate on a rectangular hopper. The hoppers are collection under a cement kiln electrostaic precipitator. What ASTM specification would these likely have been made to? I dont believe they would have been A-283 or A-285 plate, probably either A-36 or its historical equivalent.

This may help --
I have a 5th edition AISC manual (dated 1949) and it says for forgings use "Carbon-Steel Forgings for General Industrial Use" - ASTM A235.
For sheet and strip use "Tentative Specifications for Light Gage Structural Quality Flat Hot-Rolled Carbon Steel" - ASTM A245.
Under "Rolled Base Plates" it provides carbon% limits and chemical composition, but says no physical tests required.

The historical equivalent of A36 was more than likely A7 steel... Check the sixth edition, page 1-77.
