For 2005 users. I use the Design Journal for typing notes as design reference and the comments field for explanation of any changes. I have started the practice because it is available and I am trying to make use of it in case of any future reference. My question is, what are other users using it for? What is the difference between DJ and comments? thanks

Chris,
I have used it for word documents relating to the model and drawings that I have shown others. Now I do not have to remember where on the network I put them, they are always in the SolidWorks file.

It would be nice if we could access the notes in the DJ from within PDMWorks. Don't know if it would be possible but worth and enhancement request.

The DJ you open up a Word document. Comments are like a post-it. As you move the cursor down the feature manager a ballon will appear with the comment.

pdybeck, I agree...that would be nice
crjones, I know...just trying to find out how others use the info.
thanks

I don't have SW2005 yet, but if I did I would use the DJ for any documentation relating to the parts or assemblies (Specs, ECOs, Calcs, Reasons for ..., etc) & use the comments for on-the-fly "must remember to" notes & possibly x-refs to a particular doc' (in the DJ) which relates to the component the comment is attached to.

[cheers] & all the best.

thanks CBL
