2006 Hole wizard is crashing SW every time.
Insert > Features > Hole > Wizard

Can Anyone else repeat this bug before I contact the VAR?

I am on a Clean install from the discs, latest graphics card driver, and my system is very stable. There is not a need to troubleshoot my rig.

I don't have SW06 to try but ...
Do you get the same effect if you use the HW icon?
Are you preselecting a placement point?

CorBlimeyLimey,

HW Icon produces crash. With or without a preselection creates a crash. It appears to be full on bug. But no one can repeat this finding it looks like i'm SOL.

I can't recreate it yet. Hole wizard seems to work fine. Did you disable antivirus when you installed?

rfus ... have you tried a Repair yet?

Just for giggles, what graphics card and driver version are you using?

Hey guys,

I tried repair. No Help.

I uninstalled, cleaned the regitry, and reinstalled, Making Sure, Like I did the first time, that Symantec Was disabled. I still crash. I ran the software in OpenGL mode and obtained the same results.

PDMAdmin,
Manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation
Card: Quadro FX 3000/AGP/SSE2
Driver: 6.14.10.6722 (this is the one recomended by SW), not the latest, 77.65, supplied by NVIDIA.

I have used the Problem Capture utility and sent this one off to the VAR.

Its funny cause I really don't use the hole wizard much, but today it was pretty essential for some custom knurled, threaded, and counterbored inserts created for use with a mold I have made. I planned on finishin up the design and creating the mechanical drawings and sending it off hours ago. I can do what I need without the HW, but man, what a drag of an afternoon trying to fix this.

I'll let you know what comes back from the VAR and SW.

Not that it helps but I use the HW a lot and it's working fine for me. I like the fact that the properties break out intuitively like features. It's a must for the type of work I do.

SolidWorks 2006 SP0
Windows XP Pro, Pentium4 3.00GHz
1.5 GB RAM, Matrox P650
Logitech Marble Mouse, CADMAN

for what its worth I tried to use the hole wizard and each time it crashed solidworks. I checked the unc paths and they were all valid I dont use maped drives.

Now I dont use the Hole wizard very much.

The problem is this

MSADO15.dll is improperly registered.

Bring up cmd and cd to
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYSTEM\ADO\

type regsvr32 MSADO15.dll

I get LoadLibrary failed.

Even though my antivirus is disabled something on the network here is preventing this from loading. I have been so busy I have not had time to disconect from the network and spend the time to do a complete reinstall following this procedure provided by SW.

Download the latest anti-virus signature file.

Disconnect computer from the network

Scan the computer for Viruses – take action if any are found Set the anti-virus system to not start on reboot Reboot the computer Install SolidWorks Reboot the computer Set the anti-virus system to start on reboot Reboot the computer Reconnect the computer to the network.

I have the same problem, and have tried a repair etc, and nothing helps.
rfus, did you ever get you hole wizard to work?

I am getting closer to the solution. Not much help from SW other than telling me it was something to do with MSADO15.dll. They are trying to blame it on Symantic but that is not the case. Here is what I have found and I think I made some progress on my end at the end of the day.

I used the dependency walker to trace the dependencies of msado15.dll and found that msdart.dll had an implicit dependancy error. I was able to replace the file with another msdart.dll from another machine and resolved that problem. MPR.DLL still gives me this error: Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module. When attempting to replace the file with one from another machine (diferent version) It was to no avail.

It is a problem when you create Software that relies on certain preregistered dll's. It is a SolidWorks problem and a Microsoft problem. These things must be acounted for in their install sheild wizard.

The Hole wizard will no longer crash the system but now gives this error window: Unable to open master database due to the following error: (nothing shown as error). I tried to reinsert the Default.mdb file I was sent from the VAR a while back when I reported this problem but to no avail.

I downloaded the latest MDAC (Microsoft Database Access Control) 2.81 and tried to see if this updated itself and configure a system that would properly install SW. Nope.

I see that others have had the same problem with 06. If I can't get this I'm going to have to reformat the system or just convice myself that the hole wizard stinks and I don't need it anyway. That would take a while and I've already spent almost a day's worth of time installing and uninstalling. I'm pretty sick of looking at John McEleney's head.

rfus,

Did you ask you VAR for a new set of disks? The first set I had produced an error message about not being able to find a dll file (not the ones you mention though) on the third disk. I got a replacement for disk three and all went well (and yes Hole Wizard works fine).

Regg

I talked to my VAR yesterday about this. He told me that SolidWorks knows there is a problem, and it will be fixed in service pack 1 which is due out in about a week or so. So I guess until then, I'm going to make my own holes.

I have fixed the issue this morning, and the hole wizard is working. With the problems with the DLL’s I began to see that it this was a Microsoft Problem. I rolled my computer back and reinstalled XP SP2 and no longer tracked any of the dll errors. While I was rolled back in SP1 I tried an install and encountered the Hole Wizard crash. I did not try to install MDAC 2.7 SP1 for XP SP1, instead moved ahead to the XP SP2 install. Reinstalling SP2 fixed the MDAC .dll problems wich inturn fixed the HW problem.

In the end it appears to have been a Microsoft problem, but I would warn all users that your hole wizard may not work in XP SP1, or in XP SP2 with any errors in your MDAC .dll's.

Back to work, lots of parts to make....

At work here we are all required by the IT group to have XP SP 2 for security reasons.

I have solved my problems with the hole Wizard. Not sure if service pack 1 of SolidWorks had anything to do with it. I think the problem was because I had SW 2005 installed. SW2006 didn't have any path listed under; System Options, File Locations , Hole Wizard Favorites Database. So I added c:\Program Files\SolidWorks2006\data\databases and now the holewizard works.

Right now I have SW2004, 2005 & 2006 installed and have not noticed any problems so far with any function. From my experience, SolidWorks seems to never install the same, even on supposely identical set up computers.
