I have a project where a client wants to change the use of a space. I have existing floor framing plans that specify the floor joists. The are mostly H joists and I can find load tables for them in the 75 Year Steel Joist Manual. However, two bays are listed as 24VH8 and 20VH7 joists. I cannot find those in the 75 Year Steel Joist Manual. Based on the load tables the H joists can support a load in excess of 100 psf so those joists are ok for the load they want to put on them. The 24VH8 and the 20VH7 joists are in the floor areas that are designated as weight room and fitness room and they have the same span as the H joists that are supporting a 100 psf load, so I am thinking that the VH joists should have a capacity in excess of 100 psf, but I can't find anything to be certain. Does anyone know where to find information on these VH joists?

@ sliderule:

Might want to download and post pages 15 and 16 to your site for future reference...

Thank you, Mike. How come those are not in the 75 year joist manual?

Somebody hided the papers at the time of publication, I guess :)

msquared48: do the VH-series joists have their own SJI specification in the 1979 Vulcraft manual or are they covered by the H-series (or some other) specification? This is the first I have ever heard of VH-series open-web steel joists. They are not included in the 60-year SJI manual, unless they are hiding in plain sight. Thank you for sharing the load tables.

The VH joist series are tabbed and positioned between the H and VS series joists in the 1979 manual.

They even have their own specification section.

They are not in my 60 year either. Perhaps they were redesignated to something else. Probably should call Vulcraft or Nucor...
