Hi fish22

If you have the equipment to overhaule and test these pumps you could do this. But it's always good to let look a specialist to it.

But it's very cool to do. Disconnect everything, clean, put everything back and then make some characteristics and test runs.

Good luck

Specifically you can check for vibration. A vibration measurement done on a regular basis is useful. Just walking up to a used installation and measuring it with no history is not much use.

You can megger the motor to discover its insulation quality.

You can visually inspect the motor looking for corrosion and cracks. You can check for bearing looseness with a dial indicator.

Most pumps and 3phase motors should run for years before any issues creep up.

What kind of motors are these? Series DC, Permanent magnet DC, AC single phase, or AC three phase?

DC motors and AC motors have different things to look for. If these are DC motors with brushes it it usually a good idea to replace the brushes and true the commutator. Megger is good on these as well as on the AC motors. Also, on both types check the bearings for wear and play.

If it is broken, fix it. If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.
