316 SSt and 5% sulfuric acid at 80 psi and 312F 1

I have been asked to design a vessel to withstand 5% sulfuric acid solution and 80 psi steam, we have a piece of 316L pipe so I am trying to calculate the corosion factor. Any link to a source of information would be appreciated.

Try teflon lining for your vessel, it will outlast any corrosion allowance you build in the shell thickness.

I suppose Teflon doesn’t withstand temperatures of 155ºC.

Due to your temperature, corrosion rate of 316L will be doubtful.

In that case the use of an alloy duplex such as 2205 would be recommendable.

If you chose the proper polymer lining such as Belzona, maybe you can even use carbon steel on your shell.

Thank you for the suggestions, perhaps I should provide more information. The reactor vessel will be used for research purposes and for a limited time. The unit will only be in service for on or two hours per week and that for only one year. The piece of pipe that I have is 16" with a 3/8" wall, I would like to be able to determine the expected life of the vessel so the cost of acquiring other materials can be weighed against using what we have on hand and disposing of the unit at the end of the test. I have been unable to locate good information as to the rate of corrosion of 316 when exposed to sulfuric acid at this temperature and concentration.
 
The best source of corrosion data is the NACE CORSUR that you can access at the KNOVEL website. Unfortunately at this moment is not working.
I've found this publications:


at page 8, there is a graph with isocorrosion curve for SS 316 in Sulfuric Acid. The curves stop at the boiling point that is below your op temp.
Based on the data on the graph, it seems that the corrosion rate should be in the range 50-200 mpy(milly inch per year).
I think it's too much for your pipe.

Now the CORSUR is working, i've found data similar to the graph of the doc above.
