Guys,
Can you help me out to find a document to client which said the 316L Base metal or Filler metal can work at elevated temperature. Actually our equipment service temperature is more than 600 degree so we need to prove 316L base metal & filler wire can work at elevated temperature with out any defect.

The use of 316L is generally accepted up to 850 F (ref ASME II Part D and ASME B31.1. At 600 C it would not be permitted,

Types 316 and 316L are molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel which are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than the conventional chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel such as Type 304.

316 Maximum service temperatures in dry air, based on scaling resistance (ref: ASM Metals Handbook)
Intermittent (°C) 870
Continuous (°C) 925

Alloy selection should be a combination of reduced allowable stress, and Scaling Resistance.

316L or 316/L dual grade can be used in pressure boundary service (i.e. as pipe) all the way up to the limit of the stress values in B31.3- as long as the LOWER stress values (i.e. those for 316L rather than 316) are used. The safe allowable stress for 316L at 1500 F is about 1,000 psi vs 1300 psi for 316 at 1500 F, and 16,700 psi at 100 F for 316L vs 20,000 psi @ 100 F for 316.

B16.5 requires flanges to be H grade above 1000 F, but pipe and fittings etc. can be L grade as long as these lower stress values are used.
