3D FEA recommendation?

Hi all,

Thanks for all the help so far. I've downloaded and used FEMM to compute some forces in 2D and the results are resonably close to our experimental data.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a 3D magnetic FEA program that isn't more than a few thousand $$ -- I have contacted a couple of companies from the list in the FAQ, but I thought I'd ask if anyone is using one they are happy with. The 'Integrated Engineering Software -- Amperes' looked good, but at $19,900 it is too much for us. I think we would use the software enough to justify spending a couple thousand.

Thanks,
Chris

I use Amperes just about every day and highly recommend it. However, I know it is expensive

You might want to look into using a consultant. Also, some permanent magnet companies can do modeling as a service for a fee.

I use Infolytica's Magnet. It is not cheap however. They do consulting.

I use FLUX3D and Ansys both are highly recommended but flux3d is cheaper than Ansys

For very occasional use you are better off paying a consultant. If you are not experienced you can expect GIGO results (garbage in, garbage out). Infolytica's MagNet is easier to use than most but you would still need training and experience. The most difficult part is getting accurate magnetic material properties. DO NOT assume that the properties supplied with the software are sufficient or accurate.
