Hello, I am new to SAP2000 computer modelling.
I recently did a modelling of a 3D RC frame but I am confused of the result that I obtained.
I am designing a pumping station which is a very simple RC frame model. I have modelled the entire RC frame in 3D and I have also modelled the structure in 2D subframe model (by dividing the whole structure into many sub-frame in x-plane and y-plane and model them seperately).
Given that the load assigned on the 3D frame model and 2D subframe are identical, I expected that the 2D model will give me a more conservative result (larger resultant forces and displacement) as in 3D model the perpendicular subframe will give extra restraint to each other. However, the result is contradict to my expectation and I found that the 3D model give me a worsen result.
Can anyone tell me the reason behind? I thought subframe analysis would be a safer design.
