3d to 2d

Hi everyone
I intend to device a 3d cube to some 2d planes so as to my analysis being simpler. I tried to make partition for my 3d model but then in the job section all the partition are to be solve together at the same time. does any one know how can I divide my 3d part so as each 2d part being solved separately?

So you want to perform an analysis on 2D model based on your 3D part ? It's not enough to just create partitions. Try doing it this way:
- create a sketch on the proper plane/face of 3D model
- project the edges of this 3D model on the sketch
- save the sketch
- create new 2D part and paste the sketch
 
Thank you very much for your explanations.indeed the 3d cube is a polycrystalline model which i had created bn dream.3d and then i import it to the ABAQUS. In a situation like this what should i do?
 
The aforementioned procedure should work for imported IGES/STEP files too. However, if you imported it as a mesh without associated geometry (like from Hypermesh software) then Abaqus will read it as an orphan mesh and the procedure above won't work without preceding conversion to geometry.

but for the four mentioned procedure you explained above does it still needed to make a partition in the 3d model to convert it to 2d? if yes when I should make the partition?
 
It can be partition or any other operation based on sketch. When you go to sketcher just project the edges and save the sketch. Then exit sketcher cancelling operation. Sketch will be saved and can be imported when you create new 2D part.

Sometimes (parts extruded with draft) you may have to partition the cell with a datum plane and then create a setch on that plane to be able to project cutting edges.
 
I got a little confused
because if I want to create a new sketch I would totally loos my 3d part. so in this case how am I supposed to project from the 3d part when there is not it anymore?
 
That 3D part won’t be lost because your new sketch won’t be a sketch for so called base feature byt rather for additional feature. It’s like working in CAD program - you can create new sketches on datum planes and model faces without cancelling the first extrusion/revolution.
 
no but yes it would lost! the part2 would be created and I will no more be on part1
 
Follow these exact steps:
1) Create 3D part (part 1)
2) Create datum plane intersecting this part or use its face
3) Choose „Partition Cell: Sketch Planar Partition”
4) Select that datum plane or part 1 face as a plane for new sketch
5) Project all the edges of the 3D part on that sketch
6) Choose „Save sketch as”, confirm and cancel partition procedure. This way nothing changed with 3D part but you have the sketch containing its contours saved.
7) Create new part, choose 2D and in sketcher choose „Add sketch”, select the previously created sketch, confirm and complete the procedure to create 2D part.

This way you will have unchanged 3D part 1 and new 2D part 2.
