Looking at the behavior,
When I create a new layout, and then close my part without saving it, the new layout is gone when I reopen the part.
This leads me to believe that it (the information) is stored in the partfile itself.

As you are working in NX12, I would say that this layout function is obsolete. NX12 has different options to show your part in multiple windows which you can rearrange to your liking.
Don't know if this new approach of "layout" can be stored anywhere.

Thank you ronald for the information.
But we are working on PMI and using the layout option to save multiple views in one window.
The information is saved with part hence whoever opens it can open the layout without hassle.
This is the reason why we wanted to know where does this layout information gets saved.

"View layout" is a really old function in NX. ( it was there when i started 1990...)
It is saved in the partfile.
Back then , the graphics capability of the terminals / workstations were low , hardware accelerated shaded mode was not available for most users, so instead of rotating the view in wireframe display mode to select things on the side, they had a layout with views of the different sides.
also, the user interface was such that rotating the view was a few clicks, and not realtime mode.

Tomas
