3DExperience preferences have no effect/won't apply

I'm new to 3DExperience/Catia V6 (but I've used V5 extensively in the past) and I can't seem to get it to apply any of the changes I make in Preferences. When I click apply or ok nothing changes.

My main gripes at the moment are the background colour is stuck on white so I can't see some of the geometry and I can't get rid of the grid in sketcher. Does anyone know why it won't let me update my preferences?

Try to delete settings in C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\DassaultSystemes\CATSettings\ and cache files in C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\DassaultSystemes.

For changing background color: click RMB on 3DX screen background -> Ambience
