Hello,

Is there any 3dxml viewer, that allows users to make some measures to the 3dxml files? I tried the 3dxml viewer that dassault provides, but for measure it doesn't works...
I need to give the production guys an away for them to measure 3d parts. Any idea?

In our company we have also NX, and with teamcenter and jt files (directly exported from NX), them can measure the parts. But export from catia to NX, is really boring. Export from catia to stp, then import to NX, them export to JT. really painful...

Hi Tiago,
There's a viewer called Enovia that I'm sure will let you measure 3dxml files.
As for the cost ?

Alan

Hello,

In my professional opinion, you are creating a out-of-control process with out-of-control documents.

That is not advisable.

You should formalize the process of exporting from CATIA, then from NX (I am sure this is easy scriptable by yourself) and use controlled documents/objects from Teamcenter. What do you do if the production guy measures a wrong revision/version of your part? Who's going to be responsible?

The cheapest method should be with Catia V5 - license Enovia DMU.
If I remember good, the cost is around 1500 a year per user .
If you find something free, let me know :) I would be also interested.

Hi,

@iscariot
Tiago need a player with measurement capabilities but I suppose he don't need precision, otherwise this can be a problem...3dxml file is not a precise solid file comparing with native CATIA files (remember that 3dxml player can also open cgr files... ring a bell?).

Buying a DMU license is more expensive than what you said, this is coming in addition to a basic CATIA license (like a MD2 for example). So the production guys will consume a CATIA license, that's why Tiago want a player, he don't want to increase the companies costs.

@Alan
Enovia is a PLM software by Dassault generally speaking, not a viewer. Yes, is having also a incorporated viewer were you can measure also (in VPM for V4/V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE) but again, just approximating....dimensions written on 2D drawings or on 3dxml files with FTA license are mandatory to follow for production guys....and yes, in 3DEXPERIENCE you can see a lot of file formats...

Even for approximate measurements I completely agree with what Calin said.

A solution can be 3DVIA Composer but this is coming with a cost...

Another solution was already mentioned here on the forum but I don't remember who was... see
I know for sure that in older versions of 3dxml files coming from CATIA (older versions) this software could do some measurements but you need to save 3dxml files from CATIA with specific options...and maybe is not working with newer CATIA releases...

@Ferdo, I mean Catia V5 ZAV that has DMU Navigator module with the measure option. MD2 it is not required :)

I agree, 3DXml it is not as precise as native data but enough for most needs :)

I don't think GLC player has measurement option, at least when I have checked. Also quite difficult to navigate inside.

3DVia composer ... I have no idea what this is :)Is it more expensive than ZAV?

I suppose ZAV is a customized package for AIRBUS...if I'm not mistaken there is also ZOT, ZOL, a.s.o and all of them include HD2 or MD2 mandatory for CATIA to work, like a base condition (HD2 has bigger price then MD2 because includes some other functionalities). They are used by Airbus suppliers, as a SMD company without being an Airbus supplier I don't know if you have access to them...

3DVIA Composer is cheaper then SW as far as I know and is used especially for technical manuals.

@TiagoFigueiredo, It is quite easy to convert CATIA to JT if you are already using the Teamcenter license. Siemens has developed a tool with a 3rd party (dont remember the name of the company, most probably, EB Solutions or some such), this allows you to directly export JT from CATIA file, be it part or product. Since you are already using Teamcenter, I dont think the cost would be prohibitive. It is called "PLM_Components_JT_Bidirectional_Translator_for_CATIAV5_v9.3_64bit"

What is the cost for Teamcenter visualisation? I am curious.
