5-axis lathe postprocessor

Has anybody built a 5 axis lathe post in either MDFG or Post Builder? (XYZBC)
If so, wouuld you mind sharing some insight?

im just building one..there are many problems i have
(but im only try fixing the problems, the post built by our vendor..)

Your machine looks more like a machining center to me-
(XYZAC). Not a lathe. Am I mistaken?
I built a post for a machine like that, but it is in MDFG (GPM) which still works, but is considered legacy by NX standards.

I am building a post for a Lathe- with a spinning chuck in turning mode, that also serves as a C axis in milling mode.

Looking again at the picture, I see that your X axis is in the same orientation of the Y axis on the machining center that I made the post for. It looks similar though. What control does it have?

yes. but i think its kinematics is the same : XYZBC
rotary table/chuck, and a rotary head.

Yes, however when you go into Post Builder and want to build a lathe post, you only have the option for a 2 axis lathe. Admitedly I am a novice Post Builder user (have used MDFG lots though), but this seems pretty simplistic seeing allthe multi-axis lathes that are out there now.
 
you can use two (or more, i think) posts together, if you link one in the other.
A lathe postprocessor with a multi-axis mill(program&toolpath tab\linked posts).
but how does it works? i dont know..

In the postbuilder course manual there is a sample how to set up a mill turn. In short, definition of heads in the cam file trigger each individual postprocessor.
 
Hi jelmerra- I would be forever indebited to you if you could scan a few relavent pages of that manual and post it somewhere for me to upload.. ;-)

One way of doing it:
Create a 2-axis lathe post.
Create a 5-axis mill post.
Create a xzc mill post (3-axis mill turn) that calls the other two (linked posts).
Create a cam file with methods named after the 2 posts put head ude in each method.

That should do the trick.

Obviously it is also possible to extend a 5-axis milling postprocessor but that is a bit more complicated. In the postprocessor directory there are one or two examples of mill turn postprocessors.
