5 kVA Electric Generator, Available Three Phase Motor, but the requirement is for a Single Phase.

Hi Guys,

So there is a situation with one of my client. They require a 1-Phase Electric Dewatering Pump to be connected to and powered by a 5 kVA Electric Generator. The issue is that I have only 3-Phase Motor Pump to supply. Solutions on how to connect and run the thing is welcome.

With a 5 KVA generator they won't be starting anything larger than about 2 HP, single phase or three phase.
At 5 KVA it is unlikely that the generator will be three phase.
Look at the cost of either;
1. A three phase generator. You may have to go up to about 15 KVA or 20 KVA to get a three phase generator.
or
2. A suitable single phase to three phase VFD.

Depending of 3-ph motor power/torque vs pump needs, may try to connect motor at single phase generator by capacitor scheme and start-up from generator itself to avoid high start-up motor current.
