I'm a mechanical designer but we have a project where some of the power transformers are under my contract. My specs. use the terms #6/0 and #4/0 which I'm familiar with but also refer to " 500 MCM" connectors which I am not familiar with. Can I get the short version of what type or size this refers to and a source?

500 MCM (now referred to as kcmil instead of MCM) is a wire size meaning 500,000 circular mils.
Typically in the US it goes

smaller sizes 1 to 32 or whatever AWG
then
1/0 AWG
2/0 AWG
3/0 AWG
4/0 AWG
250 kcmil (or MCM)
300 kcmil
350 kcmil
400 kcmil
500 kcmil
600 kcmil
750 kcmil
1000 kcmil

And your source will be any electrical supply house....

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

Thanks,new term for me.

Just to note, that the area is the area of copper conduction, not the total area of the conductor.
