Hi everyone, I'm looking for normal toughness in a 516 Gr 70 material. I want to know if the toughness has been changed his value since 1990. Anyone know? I searched in ASTM and ASME II but I couldn't find it.

Thanks!

It will all depend on the thickness and if it is normalized or not.

You mean your looking for actual toughness values but at what service temperature? The material should be supplied as fine grained and normalized for best toughness values.

I wouldn't expect minimum required values to change, but average furnished values can change- as mills are upgraded, chemistry is tweaked, plate is made to meet dual specs, old mills shut down, new ones open, etc- that on top of normal variations from plate to plate or over the range of thicknesses furnished.

I have seen absorbed impact energies of this material from < 15 ft-lbs to > 100 ft-lbs at -50 F; so I'm not sure what you're asking.

Thanks, I was making a rerate of a vessel with API 510 8.2, and in the flow chart ask if the toughness has changed. This confused me and I started looking requirment of the toughness for this material.

Regards to everyone
