Dear All,

I am trying to find the density of 5w30 engine oil at 40 deg c and 100 deg c. Manufactures only give the density at 15 degc for the winter oils. I have been searching around for a couple of hours, and thought about calculating the density from the viscosity, but of course I can only fund the kinematic viscosity...!

Any ideas?

There is an Automotive Lubricant forum in the Automotive section that I think you will find more posters who might be able to help you, not that it isn't a ME subject. The members who lurk there might have it at their fingertips.

Thank you for your reply - I have in fact just found the values and was soon to be on my way back to post here. If anyone else is wondering...

Density will vary manufacturer to manufacturer but a safe guideline that can be found in the Bosch automotive handbook for 5W-30 engine oil is 860kg/m3 at 40degc and 830kg/m3 at 100degc.

Thanks,

M
