6061 Al dish 2

I am producing a dish of 1 m diameter and .25 m depth made out of 6061 Al. I thought of deep drawing but I am worried about puckering and the fact I only need a small quantity of these dishes? I am looking into pure stretch forming but I am not sure if this is feasible or not? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Spin it.

You don't say how thick you want it to be, but so long as it is less than 18 mm thick then you should be able to spin it.

You can use a wooden former that will cost peanuts compared with a stamping tool.

What if i can't spin it? (other reasons besides thickness) Is it feasible to stretch form it?

One other method that may be of use is explosive forming. A quick Google search turned up the following company

that does both spin forming and explosive forming. They may be able to help you.

 

why dont you try Al 5052 it wont break as easy as 6061 also one of the problems with spin and explosion form is precision it doesnt hold close tolerances. Im sure that you can stamp it. it will depend on speed, temp and mat'l thickness.

I would look at hydroforming. To reduce pucker, you will probably want to mage the part larger and trim back. I have no experience with annealing 6061, but that may soften it enough for forming
