Dear All,
I have concerns refer to AWS D1.1 table 4.10. If we qualify the 6GR welder by using fig 4.27 pipe, it qualifies ALL position under plate CJP joint. While under Pipe butt weld joint 6GR welder not qualified to weld root without backing/ two sides without back gouging ( AWS D1.1 table 4.10 note d). If in the production we have plate butt weld weld is only one sided fullpen weld, can we expect the 6GR welder can produce the good and uniform root penetration in this case while during the qualification test visual acceptance 4.9.1 T.K.Y melt thru is not limited? Do you think AWS D1.1 table 4.10 not limiting the root pass without backing or back gouging in the plate butt weld same as pipe butt weld consider this joints is straight butt weld?
Thanks
