Hello everyone
I need guidance in choosing a welding material for welding
Half pipe jacket reactor .
The reactor made of 904-L and the half pipe jacket made of 304-L(Contains steam at 160 °c)
What is the recommended welding material 904-L or 304-L
Thanks

Hi,
Very Critical.

The half pipe jacket has 2 roles
1.act as a stiffiners to hold full vaccum in the 904-l vessel
2.to hold the 6 barg pressure inside the
304-l half pipe

The welding connect the half pipe 304-L jacket to the 904-L vessel

Then get someone who knows what (s)he's doing to decide on the welding procedure. Cracking is a real risk here. Low delta ferrite, copper-alloyed material, ... this isn't something that can be signed of by dr. google.

As a generalization with dissimilar stainless steels, the filler metal composition will tend toward that of the higher alloy base metal, or sometimes even higher.

Some welding development will be necessary here. Which just means trial welds with two or three fillers.

p.s., any plans to retain a metallurgist/welding engineer in future?

Aloni,
Who is fabricating this? Where are they located?
Are you the end customer or are you part of the design/fabrication side?
