I am wondering if anyone out there has any ifnormation about the building of a rotorblade of perhpas 20 feet in overall length of mainly carbon fiber and fiberglass and some small amounts of aluminum. I would be interested in hearing comments about the idea. This would not be a rotorblade that would be powered.

Thank you both for taking the time to add your notes here. I have been to the Carter site before but your note was a reminder. The Unicopter site was also very interesting and looks like there is a lot of information there if one is willing to do the clicking.
Apparently my fascination with rotorblades and autorotation is a rare one as I never get that much action on my posts. But I shall continue my pursuit as this old retired guy needs to keep busy. Thanks again.

jplot,
composite rotor blades are common to Bell, MD helicopter, and Apache helicopters at the very least. I expect there are others. Check out Bell Helicopter's composite blade repair course for info on how they make blades.

There are differing methods of manufactrue but most are alminum core with carbon and glass reinforced epoxy resin prepregs.
Have fun. I was tired yesterday, i'm tired today so that must mean i am re-tired.

Composites and Airplanes - what was I thinking?

There are gremlins in the autoclave!
