Hello everyone,

I have a 1970s built reactor with vessel material listed as A-387-B N&T. Is this material equivalent to today's A-387-12?

I appreciate the time in advance!

Edit: To clarify, I ask this because I've seen conflicting responses on different forums between A-387-11 and A-387-12 superseding A-387-B. So was just looking for some assistance confirming which current material spec applies.

I can give you a partial answer: yes,, they are equivalent but the current edition of the spec is actually ASTM A387-17a (i.e. it was issued in 2017). The material in your reactor was given a normalize and temper heat treatment. What I don't know is what the "B" denotes. What you need to know is the grade of chrome-moly steel (ASTM A387 has several), and the strength class (1 or 2) to know what you have.

Stan, where does that come from? That is Grade 12 under the spec as currently written.

Thank you @mrfailure & @weldstan very much for the quick responses and help! Greatly appreciated!
