Hi,
wich is the temperature range of the A 516 Gr.60 steel?
Can I use it for -10°C=>70°C air-pressure vassels (10bar/diameter 10inch)?
We would like to PED-certify our item. I know that I have to ask to my supplier:
- EN 10204 3.1.b certify
- a Quality System
- WPS for weldings

The question: do I have to ask my supplier for additional requirements such as:
1) Iso V Notch Impact test at -10 °C
2) High temperature (70°C) tensile tests??

Thanks
Carlo - Italy

According to the PED materals are considered ductile if they are capable of meeting 27 J at 20 deg. C
According to ASTM A 20 the material A 516 Gr. 60 can easaly fullfil this requirement. Actual impact testing would not be required.
Hot tensile testing is not required.

Thank you ijzer!
"According to ASTM A 20" ... you can suppose my next question ... can I find on the web the ASTM A 20 (or a part of it, to make evidence about your considerations).

ASTM A 20 is available from ASTM International at:

The requirement of Impact test on the Plate is based on the MDMT and the thickness of the vessel you are designing. Assuming the MDMT being -10 degree C, for the diameter you have specified, thickness is expected to less such that Impact test may not be necessary. Have a look at UCS 66 and UG 84 of ASME sec VIII Div 1.

Similarly tensile test at 70 degree is not necessary. Refer to ASME sec II D + UCS 23 table, the allowable stress of the material you have specified does not vary, and 70 degree centigrade is not considered high temp.

As regrads Standard WPS as permitted in ASME Sec VIII UW would do (You may also have to refer AWS D 1.1) if you do not want to do fresh PQT.
