I recall back around 1976 reading a Consumer Report car buyer's guide in which they discussed their classification of cars [—] full size, mid-sized, compact and sub-compact. They claimed that all compact cars have not sufficient space in the back seat for an adult, except for the Dodge Dart, and all imports.

You cannot write stuff like that, now.

The French had technical leadership in many areas in the early 1900's up to WWII. With some minor bright spots after the war. Think Delahaye, Talbot, Bugatti among others.

Citreon were the only car manufacturer I really wanted to work for, in my 20s. Then they got defenestrated in the 'merger' with Peugeot.

The Alba was the only fully Portuguese car of the 1950s, when several small car manufacturers appeared in Portugal in order to participate in the events organized by the Automobile Club of Portugal. The Alba had 4 cylinders with 2 carburetors and 1500Cm3. The Alba company based in Albergaria has already gone bankrupt.

Interesting but it doesn't identify who the cars are being made by. Just the country they're made in. Mexico made the list at the end but they're like Canada, US manufacturers. Airbus is a multinational owned company and never was a "French" company. Airbus SE, the SE is Society Europe and is registered in the Netherlands. France is a leader in developing exotic alloys. Bugatti is owned by Volkswagen. Remember the early 60's when everyone though the only thing Japan could make was cheap toys and transistor radios? They embraced Deming and his quality control principles that we looked down on but depend on now to be competitive. China is the next Japan. Malaysia will follow China. I believe S. Korea builds the most large ships now. China makes more but not the ships that begin with "Super," like super tanker. It's always been this way. Things always change but remain the same. Manufacturing is like a dog chasing it's tail.
