A long shot but....

We have just started working with a new decal supplier. They have provided us with some really detailed 2D decals, in 2 different formats which were created from within Adobe something or other (DXF AND DWG). However although they will import into NX and open in Viz they do so with quite a lot of data missing. Now I think this is down to the program that it was created in, but just wondered if there is anyway I can make them import correctly.

Try and get them to convert them into CGM as that should improve the transfer of the 2D data. If you're dealing with only 2D vector data, CGM is generally your best bet.

You can also bring them in as Raster images if you have a studio license, you then need to trace curves over them. Some people have tried to do a similar thing using the ability to add images to drawing sheets in drafting, or so I'm told.

The reason that I mention this is that rendering image formats which are pixel based into CGM produces a rasterised kind of data breaking up what appear to be long flowing curves into shorter somewhat fragmented lines. There can also be a fair amount of background mess from shaded areas that really adds up to the fact that you probably need to trace over the CGM in a similar manner.

I hope this at least helps by saving you time trashing around chasing an "easier" solution that gets you no closer to the desired result.

I might add that we do use logos from our clients on drawing title blocks by adding the images to the drawing in most cases. If that is your only requirement then save yourself the hassle and use a tif or a jpeg.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

The decals are very detailed and complex so it would be easier for us to do them ourselves from sctatch in NX, we have found some settings on the suppliers software which have helped aling with a DXF to GCM convertor off the internet and everythings seems to have slotted into place.
