A quick question to get you all thinking.

In NX4, I wish to configure my 'Assembly Preferences > Part Name Style' to display an attribute.......

but........

I want it to display 2 part attributes at the same time!!!

Any Ideas?

Cheers,

You would have to concatenate the two attributes and set this equal to a third which is the one that you would assign too the Part Name display.

Now I can do this using the Expression system, but the problem is that there is no easy way to get the new combined attribute to reflect changes in either of the original two automatically. In fact, I can't find anyway to trigger it automatically (however this will all be fixed in NX 8.0). But just in case what I can do might work out for you, see the attached example file.

It has two attributes, 'ATT-A' and 'ATT-B', which I've used an Expression to combine into a single attribute 'ATT-C', which I've also set to displayed as the 'Part Name' in the Assembly Navigator.

Now the problem is that if you change either 'ATT-A' or 'ATT-B', you will need to do something to cause the expression to update. However, at the moment there is no automatic mechanism which detects that a change in an attribute has taken place, so instead we much force the Expression to update which will cause to reread the values of the Attributes and the update will take place.

So if you open the attached part file and edit one of the Part Attributes, you will need to open the Expression system, select the expression there and just do anything which will trigger an update (removing and reinserting a character anywhere in the 'value' side of the expression will do the trick).

Anyway, give it look as this might work OK for you.
