a VFD for syncronous motor

I´ll like to know if it´s possible to control speed on a syncronous permanent magnets motor, with a senoidal winding (the wave must be close to a sine wave) .. in a open loop...if somebody know some manufacturer please tell me ... or if somebody have done it.....
