We welded an A356.0 casting with weld wire 4043, and the hardness results after heat treatment were not very good. We did solution heat treatment for 4 and 6 hours, followed by precipitation heat treatment, and the hardness (Brinell) results were the following:
After 4 hours,
the parent material (A356.0) = 79.3; the weld (4043) = 52.5
After 6 hours,
the parent material (A356.0) = 90.5; the weld (4043) = 54.9
Per ASTM handbook, Brinell hardness for the casting should be about 80. Can somebody tell me that value for 4043? Is it normal that my results for 4043 are this low?
Thank you very much!!
:)
