Can anyone comment on the difference between the machinability of A572 versus A36. We are currently turning a part made of A36, the machine shop is finding that it is excessively gummy to the point where they have to replace inserts.

A572 is similar in price and meets the yield strength criteria, but I am unsure on the machinabilty of the material.

Initially the machine shop recommended 1045 plate, but the costing is higher the A572.

Ed has got it. 572 has a tensile strength of about 10-15% higher than a36. This will allow better cuts, nice curled chips. Run more feed and less speed in gummy materials. But this 1045 steel will probably machine the best of the three.
