I am using AB Powerflex 4 drives for a conveying system.
The drives are 1 Hp while the motor are only 1/2 Hp. These drives are being controlled by an after market modbus protocol card. And the Question is this, When the drive starts it does not ramp, instead it goes directly to its max Freq then slows to the desired freq. Anyone familar with these drives knows there are a slew of preset that can be altered to make the drive do what you want but I can't for the life of me find one that enables a smooth ramp function.

Sounds like you have parameter A096 (Flying Start) enabled. This feature comes in handy if your system suffers a temporary power loss or the like, and has a large inertial load with a long coast time. The drive will start a 60 Hz regardless of the command reference, and seek the loads actual rotational speed, afterwards, the drive will resume acceleration back to the original speed reference. If the load isn't already rotating, you will see the frequency display jump from 60 to 0 rather quickly, and begin accelerating the load. We use this on our equipment as a nuisance prevention, in the event of a short term power event / type 1 fault.

Thank you so much that maks all the sense in the world.
I'll have a tougher one next time.
