Abaqus 6.12 starting error

Hey guys,

I use a shared computer at uni, with Windows 7. This morning I tried to start my Abaqus and got this message:

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Abaqus Error: Unable to shutdown executable for Abaqus/CAE. Exiting..."

And then comes another box saying:

"SMACgmCaeGuiMod has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is avaiable."

I searched in the forum for some similar thread, but couldn't find. Searching in other forums, I tried to add some commands in the abaqus_v6.env file, but kept on failing.

I have no idea what can be wrong. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, fail. Do you guys have any idea of what can I do for fixing it?

It might be to do with incompatibility with your graphics card, although I assume Abaqus has worked on that computer before? You could try turning off hardware acceleration in the ENV file.

Already tried that... And it was working perfectly last week...

Can you run the viewer? (abaqus viewer)
Try running abaqus with these startup options:

abaqus cae noenvstartup
abaqus cae noGui
abaqus cae noSavedGuiOptions

can you post the contents of these files:

abaqus_dir/SMA/site/abaqus.app
abaqus_dir/SMA/site/abaqus.aev

abaqus_dir being your abaqus install directory.

I can run the prompt, I don't know if that is abaqus viewer, but I cannot see the software interface. It reads the licenses and then brings that message I've posted before.

I tried all those commands on Abaqus Command and didn't succeed. "Abaqus/CAE Kernel exited with an error", "cae exited with an error" and "Command line option "noSavedGuiOptions" may not be used with "cae"", respectively.
So I tried "abaqus noSavedGuiOptions" and failed again ("Abaqus/Analysis exited with error(s)").

I thought someone modified your cae GUI with a mod, but from the files you posted, there was no directory added.
So either I'm wrong or they added the mod in one of the default folders.
Maybe you can do a system wide search for SMACgmCaeGuiMod, including the text inside files.

Else I have no idea.

As a matter of fact, I searched on my wide system files with that name and it came with four files.
The first one is on abaqus_dir\Abaqus\6.12-1\code\productIC, which I posted the content;
There are also two shortcuts (one in the Administrator\Recent path) and another one in Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items;
And a last one with no path, no type specified just a internet explorer icon with that name, and if I try to open, it says that windows could not find...

Any idea?

I have no idea, everything you posted is exactly the same as in my installation. I guess you should contact abaqus technical support, or hang around an hope someone other than me can solve your problem

I think it might have something to do with drivers or windows updates. I've formatted my laptop (sony vaio VPC series) and installed Abaqus 6.12 and Abaqus was running fine. After a few system updates, it stopped working...

Did you manage to solve this issue recently?

I have exactly the same problem on my Vaio VPC series (VPCSA31GX). I guess it may be from a conflict with graphic card driver. Any ideas?

Apparently it seems to be an issue related to privilegies.
I've solved it before formatting my computer. However, now I've had the same problem in another computer.
If I toggle "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR", it works perfectly.

I haven't read the thread so I may be repeating something that's already been discussed but anyway: See if reducing or turning off the hardware acceleration on your graphics card will help. Do *not* mess with the original .env file.
