Hello, I am new to abaqus and trying to simulate a compression deformation of an import FE model. I defined material properties as a hyperelastic rubber like material, set contact to general contact, modeled two compression plates as analytical rigid bodies, define boundary conditions as top plate displacement down toward bottom plate. the contact is set to be general contact everywhere. It always failed and when I check the result the plate seems to not be able to deform the FE model.

The aim is very simple, just to have the FE model deform and the mesh must be tet, other things are all changeable. The mesh itself have small parts inside a larger mesh, and are different stifness value. If there is a better way to model this situation it is still good.

thank you for your help!

Check material properties, especially their units. It’s possible that the sample is too stiff to be deformed. Also is the bottom plate constrained ? If not it should be. I would change general contact to contact pairs too in this simple case.

Hi,

the FE model is imported mesh and it is curved, is it possible to constrain a tie with the bottom plate? also, for contact pairs there are ~ 20 small meshes inside the big one is it OK to define contact pairs with the small one and the whole big one? I can't seem to select hole surface inside the big one.

here is the drive link for the model. I can not upload the file here for some reason

If there is a large amount of deformation you should also try hybrid elements, if you aren't already.

General contact should work fine in this case. Fully fix one rigid plate (its reference point) and prescribe displacement in one axis (remaining DOFs should be zero) to the other plate. You can try with explicit solver.
