Structural

Hi,

I have quite a simple question:

Consider the following structure, where two beams are connected with, for example, 50 axial springs.

To model the springs as connectors in Abaqus, 50 wire features have to be made. Each wire feature is made by selecting a begin- and end node in the interaction module. After the wires are made, a connector section can be made which is eventually assigned to the wire-set.

Now my question is: how can I quickly create 50 nodes on each beam? With the partition tool in de part module, only one partition can be made at a time. I have also tried to use attachment points, but the method did not work properly. The best option would be to select the nodes from the mesh, but these nodes are not selectable when using the wire feature.

Thanks!

Hello jpee1,

Have you tried to do that in Autocad, save as a *.dxf, and then import from Abaqus?

No not yet, but i'm going to try that immediately. Let's see if it works.

Use a Python script.

Create a node set and do everything else related to that node set (wire/connector, etc.). Go to the scratch folder, open the .rpy file and scroll down to the bottom. You'll notice Python commands that mimic what you did in ABAQUS/CAE. Replicate that section can get this done. However, one needs, at least, an introduction to Python+ABAQUS.
