Hi all ,

I have a question that I wish some one here can help me with

I wanted to learn a new advanced finite element problem to help me to deal with some researches concerning soil mechanics ,

I have seen too many soil mechanic researches that uses abaqus than those which use ansys

I wonder if abaqus do has an advantage on ansys concerning soil modelling?

I have another request for both program users if you can please would you provide me with any advice or resources to help me start with learning any of these programs?

Thanks,

In my opinion Abaqus is poor software for geotechnical problem analysis. I used it for 10 years and the time I'm confront with problems of suitable modelling of for example: soil anchores, roog bolting, failure hipotesis etc.
If you want to start modelling of geotechnic problems I recommend you Finite difference method and program Flack or ZSoil software.
