I am involved in the design of a deluge system for an ammonium nitrate "aboveground" covered conveyor belt at a fertiliser plant. As it is HAZMAT, I consulted NFPA 400 (11) which, for such purposes, refers to NFPA 13. However, NFPA 13 specifies the use of sprinklers for this purpose but is limited to "underground" conveyor belts. As a way to cleanse my conscience, I yet consulted NFPA 15, wich indicates the use of open sprays, but on the other hand, it does not refer to Ammonium Nitrate in particular. Has anyone ever dealt with this type of fire-fighting system?
Thanks in advance.

Specific for a hazard criteria should be provided by the insurance carrier. If not handy, see if you could find something in the relevant FM DS.

Very grateful UFT12, I did not obtain any relevant information on Ammonium Nitrate FM DSs. I will try to find my way through the Insurance Company.

See FM Data Sheet 7-11 Conveyors

Thanks LCREP, was very useful.
