Has anybody used this pump before? We are using one of these in a small tank for mixing and chopping up a grass like material.
The pump keeps blocking up with the chopped material, I would like to replace it with another macerator / chopper pump. Is there any pumps that would be suited to this application better? Approximate flow rate is 15m^3 an hour with a few meters head. I guess I am looking for a recommendation for a good non clogging smallish chopper pump.

You need to check the water / "grass" ratio, as with any pump they can only handle a certain amount of solids in suspension.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Yes, sorry my mistake, the paunch(grassy material) is being added at a 3 to 4% Total solids, it is being diluted with a clear process water.

Cheers

If you are just adding pauch into a tank to be chopped and pump, cannot see how you can control the ratio of pauch / water, unless of course you are using some type of sampling arrangement and control - otherwise the pump will just try and pump whatever is in front of the inlet at the time.

Hi Artisi,
The tank is part of a bigger system, the paunch / water is added to the tank by weight ratio using an automated collection chute and a pressure transducer within the tank. Thus although not exact the ratio is maintained approximately. We also take samples when we are there and perform a total solids analysis on it back at the lab. I was just after an opinion on what was the best chopping/macerator submersible single phase ~15A pump on the market was.
Sorry for the lack of detail prior the system

No problem re detail. I would think if the ABS has problems so will any other pump of similar size and design.

Single phase mascerator / cutter pumps are (in our experience) notorious for clogging. Limited starting torque due to the single phase motor being the probable culprit. Sizing of the capacitor also has an influence.

You have asked for an alternative. We have found the Homa Barracuda to be very good. It has a larger discharge port than the ABS you are using which may also help.
