I replaced the mechanical seal of the absorber recirculation pump with the manufacturer's genuine part, but during the initial operation, I discovered significant leakage. After disassembling it and replacing the seal with a new one, I ran the test again, but once again, I found considerable leakage.

One mistake I made was applying silicone grease to the EPDM O-ring in the mechanical seal device during assembly. According to the manufacturer's manual, it specifically states not to use silicone-based grease.

My question is: Could the application of a small amount of grease cause significant leakage in the seal? I would appreciate any advice."

Should use proper grease on the o-ring seal as the Manufacturer recommended.

Yes. Rubber compatibility with different grease is a real issue.
And Silicone greases often have different lubricity than others.

The wrong grease is very unlikely to cause immediate leakage. You are probably doing something else wrong. Mechanical seals usually need to be installed using specific procedures and tools or fixtures. O-rings can also be very easily damaged during installation.

You should refer to the maintenance booklet and/or call the vendor of mechanical seal for advice.

Mechanical Seal installation can be tricky sometimes. You should use the right lubricant for EPDM. I would suggest a pressure test before installation as well!
