ACI 318-19, Section 9.9.3.1 - Deep Beam Distributed Reinforcement Question

When you are determining the distributed reinforcement in a deep concrete beam per ACI 318-19 Section 9.9.3.1, are you supposed to have 0.0025*bw*s of reinforcement area on each face or total between both faces?

I have a concrete textbook, Reinforced Concrete: Mechanics and Design by James K. Wight, that appears to show this is required per face according to the example snipped below.

I also found this other design example online that is from structurpoint.org that appears to show the reinforcement requirement can be totaled up among both faces.

In addition, if you are going to try to implement multiple layers or rebar to meet this requirement, i.e. for a 4'-0" wide beam, is there any requirements that this reinforcement must be installed tighter to the face of the beam like option 1 below? Or is it OK to distribute the reinforcement in the beam like option 2 below?

-This interpretation is not true . The area of distributed vertical reinforcement (perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the beam ) Av,min =0.0025bws, covers both faces . The nominal area of no.4 reinf . is 0.2 in2 and No. 4 legs at 8 in. on centers each face. Av/(bw*s) =2 * 0.20 in.2/20 in. * 8 in. =0.0025.

-The other design example that you have found online is also correct the calculation is the total reinf. ( vertical and horizontal at both faces ) .

- The crack reinf. must be installed tighter to the face of the beam like option 1 ...
