I am a bit confused about the meaning of "hoop" in ACI 318. How does it look like in column reinforcement? How is it different from ties or spirals?

Thanks.

semantics. A hoop is a circular tie; in a rectangular or square column, they're ties. Think basketball hoop.

Oh ok got it, thanks. What was confusing me here is that there are separate provisions for ties from those for hoops. So that's why I wasn't sure if there is something I am missing.
