Greetings all -

I am trying to appease a reviewer on a project, who is apparently unfamiliar with ACI318-11 Appendix D "Anchoring to Concrete", and it's use with post installed anchors. The specification on the project (dated 5/2017) still reference the old "4:1 minimum safety factor against tested ultimate" requirement for post installed anchorage, and they have asked for further documentation on the achieved safety factors (project is designed with Hilti Profis). I would be surprised if I was the first person to be asked about this, and my hope is that someone has already spent the time to try and document this, hopefully touching on LRFD, different Phi factors, etc.

Has anyone seen (or could potentially provide) such a summary?

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks

PS - Thanks to all who are active with this site - it provides both great technical information and support in a profession that seems to becoming harder and harder to be a part of.

Ask your local Hilti rep. He should be able to document how the current procedure dovetails with the old “safety factor” numbers.

The ESR report for the anchor in question might have what you are looking for too.

If you look in the front of the Hilti book there is a section that explains the design philosophy pretty well. I believe it also discusses safety factors and conversion techniques to get to use with ASD. I don't have my print copy anymore so I can't give you exact pages. I'll look a little online and see if I can find it.

Hilti Technical Manual Volume 2

Chapters 2 and 3. This is the latest version, so be aware that the references will be for the latest ACI 318 (appendix D was nixed and written into it's own chapter in the newer versions of the code).
