Hi, there!

Is anyone able to suggest to me a Project Management Software that is able to automatically reproduce (apart from the usual Gannt chart and PERT chart) an ACTIVITY ON ARROW network diagram? I actually need this tool to help me in my Project Management studies -- when I sketch the network by hand, I never manage to get the logic between the activities right, and actually seeing it done by a computer will help me better understand the precenence relationships between activities.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

HI,

The only one I know of is Pertmaster for DOS, an ancient programme which had the choice of Arrow or Precendence,
If this is for your studies tell your Lecturer that very few people in the real world use Arrow any more and vertually all of them us Precedence, therefore software manufacturers have stopped supporting it as a method of CPA.

You probably won't find a software program using activity on arrow. It seems pretty easy to develop the diagram by hand - in fact, if you can't do it by hand and want a computer program to do it for you then I'd suggest you really need the practice by hand.

PMI suggests the Network Diagram since technically there is no such thing as a PERT chart. Even MS Project has now changed their terminology.

You can always do it the old fashioned way and use index cards with the activity and duration, etc. printed on the card. Then just tape the tasks to a wall and draw arrow between the various tasks. You can then do your forward and backward pass calculations and use a highlighter to denote the critical path.

You are probably done with your course but hopefully this helps anyway.
