I'm working on a draft to show how a subassembly fits into a larger assembly. I'd like to create the draft of the subassy with the BOM and all that is linked to the subassembly, and also show an image of this subassembly installed into the larger assembly for assembly instruction. Of course the model of the larger assembly includes the subassembly, so that when I add the larger assy into the subassy model, I get messed up. Is there a way to add just an image of a different drawing into a draft? Thanks.

You can add drawing views from a different model, would that achieve what you're after?

To do this place a new view, not a projection from existing view.

Wow, thanks! By browsing in the view wizard! Oh that's very cool. Is it possible to link them to properly line up?

Don't know about that, you could try to create an alignment but I'm not sure it would work.

You can use the move command to manually line up the views though obviously this isn't associative.

One method I've used to keep the real and reference views aligned -
Place your reference view on the sheet, then either cut or copy the view.
Next right click the 'real' view and select 'Draw in View'
Inside the view do a paste and your reference view will be inserted into the real view. Make the refence view scale 1:1 and use the move command to position it.
Close draw in view.

You now have one single view that can be moved around on the drawing sheet but with the reference view embedded in it.

I'm not sure if views stay aligned by using connect relationships between elemnts in the view.

Another way is to use the method we have here - we call it an INST model (as in Installation).
In this model we add the reference models and the also the assembly model we want to show.
All reference data is set so that it appears as such in drawings and does not appear in parts lists.
By using this method our main assembly does not contatin any reference data, just sub-assemblies of required parts.

Thanks beachcomber. I didn't understand the second suggestion, but the first one is very helpful. Thanks both of you!
