Adding 2 film conditions in input file for ABAQUS in same step 1

Hello,

I am using the AM tool-path intersection module to model the additive manufacturing process in ABAQUS. I currently have one *FILM condition which is applied to evolving faces.

My question is: can I had a second *FILM subroutine as well so both film conditions hold in the same step?

Thanks,

Shaun

If you want to add cooling for the part that doesn’t use progressive element activation (for example base plate) then you just have to create a set that will contain all elements in the model (build part + non printed part) and assign it to the *FILM keyword.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I want to write a subroutine that applies the argon gas flow convection coefficient as it moves along the surface during printing (DED process). However, I still would like to have the natural convection on areas which are not in direct contact with the gas flow.

Would the best way to do this be to keep the radiation condition for the evolving faces, replace the current *FILM with my subroutine and then like you said, create a set for all the elements and add natural convection?

Thanks,

Shaun

In such case you will need two film definitions. It may look like that:

*FILM
elset_for_printed_part, FNU
*SFILM
surface_of_non_printed_part, F, sink_temp, film_coeff
