adding holes in assembly CATIA V5- UG

I create process drawings and each process has an item number, The file name is saved as the item number. The problem is that holes are added to the CatPart at the assembly operation. and the part number does not change. Are there ways to add holes to a componet at the Assembly operation, with out changing the CATpart. I will need to know how to do this in CATIA V5 an in UG/NX

I know for a fact that you cannot do this in CATIA. When you add holes in the assembly, they are carried back to the detail (part) level. Dassault knows about this issue and will have a solution in the future, so I am told from a Dassault representive.

You have the following operations available with the Assembly Features function: split, hole, pocket, remove, add. This is specifically for adding things like holes at the assembly level.

Your other option is to use "copy" and "paste special" to copy the part into another part file and add the hole features there. Using "paste special" will create a link between the two files. This is the technique you would use, for example, if you had a cast part that gets subsequently machined. The "paste special" link will allow changes made to the casting model to be carried through to the machined part.
