Adding on to a moment framed structure

Im working on a project where they are adding on a bay (65'-0") to an existing structure that is 190' +/- wide already. They are moment frames (not a metal building) but WF columns and beams.

Would it be best to do a simple beam connection at the existing, and let that frame take the load, or should I be looking to extend the moment frame? I did some analysis on this, and it basically checks, other than the new to old connection is going to be horrible to detail, since the existing beam sits on top of the old column. (Was reported the expansion was considered when designed previously, but thats late 80's.

Its for a fabrication facility, so they can fab whatever with the new beam, and modify the existing.

thoughts?

Expansion was considered but future connection was not considered ?..
Simple connection seems the best but,
- Total bldg length 255 ft , check if EJ will be required ,
- If the foundation system will not be complicated, i would prefer doubling the frame at conn. and provide EJ.

My opinion.

The connection was not. Column checks out for the load. (could have been just dumb luck).

doubling up the frame cannot occur, this addition covers and exterior crane they want interior now. No crane load on new structure.

I have not checked into foundation yet.

No current EJ noted.
